Background Information
I took up quilting in the mid-70's but I didn't discover Welsh & English Quilting until early 1994. Most of my early study of the
quilting patterns was done from book photos which I sketched with the help of a magnifying glass. In 1997 I made my first trip to England and Wales to
study traditional quilts and meet with quilt historian, collectors and teachers. In 1999 I published my Welsh Quilting Pattern & Design Handbook to provide
students with a patter resource. In 2000 I curated an exhibit of traditional Welsh & English quilts in Seattle, Washington as part of the Quiltfest activities
presented by The Association of Pacific Northwest Quilters. In 2000 I returned to England to do research and attend the yearly quilt study seminars
sponsored by the Isles and British Quilt Study Group. I belong to The Quilt Guild of British Isles and British Quilt Study Group. I also belong to the
American Quilt Study Group. American Patchwork & Quilting magazine featured an article about my work with traditional British quilting in their Qoctober 2001 issue
and my work has also been featured on 'Simply Quilts'.
I am drawn to the quilting patterns and the history of the quilts. I have developed methods to simplify the quilt pattern marking and design process. Most of my
methods are useful for quilt marking in general. I believe that there is a great deal of inspiration to be found in the traditional British Quilts.
